Kraken lists LIGHTER/USD on August 17, 2026

What Kraken listed

LIGHTER started trading on Kraken Pro on August 17, 2026. Kraken uses the symbol LIGHTER; most other venues use LIT. It is the same asset under two tickers, which is worth knowing before you search for it.

Kraken's public asset pair data shows one market: LIGHTER/USD. There is no EUR pair, and Kraken Futures has no LIGHTER contract, so this is a spot listing and nothing more.

What Lighter is

Lighter is a decentralized perpetual futures exchange built as a custom zero-knowledge rollup on Ethereum. It produces ZK proofs of its own operations, including order matching and liquidations, so a user can verify those steps instead of trusting an operator's word. That verifiability is the project's main argument against centralized perp venues.

Standard retail accounts pay zero trading fees. The token can be staked for access to the Lighter Liquidity Pool, and Kraken's asset page describes stakers as earning a fixed 6% APR.

The token launched on December 30, 2025 with a fixed supply of 1 billion. A quarter of that, 250 million tokens, went out at the token generation event to Points Season 1 and Season 2 participants, with no vesting. The claim window closed on January 12, 2026. Circulating supply still sits near that 250 million figure.

Where the token traded before Kraken

OKX moved first, and it moved before the token existed. On December 24, 2025 it opened USDT-margined pre-market perpetual futures on LIT, with a face value of 1 LIT per contract and leverage capped at 5x. OKX pre-market futures announcement

Coinbase added Lighter to its listing roadmap and said on December 31, 2025 that spot trading on the LIGHTER-USD pair would open once liquidity conditions were met. That came within about a day of the token generation event.

The spot listings then arrived together. OKX opened LIT/USDT on January 15, 2026: deposits at 11:00 UTC, a one hour pre-open window from 14:30, continuous trading from 15:30, and withdrawals at 17:30. OKX spot listing announcement Bybit and HTX opened their own LIT spot markets the same day.

Kraken arrives about eight months after all of that.

What the listing does, and what it does not

This is not a discovery event. Price discovery ran its course in January across Coinbase, OKX, Bybit and HTX, and in the perp markets that opened before spot did. Anyone who wanted exposure has had a route to it for months.

What Kraken adds is narrower and more practical. LIGHTER/USD quotes against dollars rather than a stablecoin, so a Kraken user who funds an account by bank transfer can buy the token without first acquiring USDT. Kraken also runs its own listing review, which carries some compliance signal, although Coinbase's earlier listing already covered most of that ground for US users.

The gaps matter as well. USD is the only quote currency at launch, which leaves users holding euros on Kraken converting first. And with no perpetual contract on Kraken Futures, a trader who wants leverage on this particular token still has to go somewhere else, including to Lighter itself. A perp DEX token that you cannot trade as a perp on the listing venue is an odd result, even if an unsurprising one for a new listing.

For Lighter, the effect is incremental distribution rather than a new chapter: one more regulated venue where people can buy the token with fiat and without touching a DEX.

Before you trade it

LIT is a young token with a short price history and most of its supply still locked behind a one year cliff for insiders. Thin quote options on a new listing can mean wider spreads than the same asset shows on venues that have traded it since January. Check the live spread and depth on Kraken before assuming the price you see elsewhere is the price you will get.

Kraken has not announced further LIGHTER pairs or a futures contract. Treat anything beyond the spot USD market as unconfirmed until Kraken says otherwise.
