The 24/7 claim about xStocks needs three asterisks

"Trade stocks 24/7" is the headline that sells tokenized equities. The reality is layered, and the layers matter if you plan to trade rather than just hold.

Layer one is the standard window. Most xStocks on Kraken trade 24/5, from 8:00 p.m. ET Sunday to 8:00 p.m. ET Friday. That is already a large expansion over regular US market hours — you can react to news at 3 a.m. your time on a Wednesday — but it is not the weekend.

Layer two is the continuous set. The first phase of round-the-clock trading brought genuine 24/7 markets to ten of the most active tickers on Kraken Pro: TSLAx, QQQx, SPYx, NVDAx, CRCLx, AAPLx, HOODx, MSTRx, GLDx and GOOGLx. Broader weekend coverage is described as in development.

Layer three is self-custody. Withdraw the token to your own wallet and it can trade onchain whenever someone will take the other side, with no schedule at all.

Here is the part I find more interesting than the hours themselves. The underlying stocks trade roughly 32 hours a week on a US exchange. Everything outside that is price discovery without the reference market. Market makers are quoting an asset whose real price is unobservable until New York reopens, so they widen. Spreads outside regular hours are wider, depth is thinner, and a headline that drops on Saturday gets priced by a much smaller group of participants than it would on Tuesday.

That cuts both ways. If you need to cut risk on a Sunday because something happened, being able to trade at all is worth a wide spread. If you are placing discretionary trades at odd hours simply because the market is open, you are consistently paying more to trade against fewer people, and the gap-open risk when the real market reopens has not disappeared — it has just been moved into the token's price.

Practical version: use the extended hours as a risk-management option, not as an invitation to trade more. And if you are working an order outside US hours, a limit order on Kraken Pro with the order book visible beats a market order almost every time.
